His opinion on drug addiction
Kasich has admitted that he has no clue what it’s like to battle such a strong and relapsing disease as addiction. However, he also believes that no person is too fare gone to be saved, stating:
“You cannot give up, because there’s a purpose to your life, you understand that. Everybody in this room has a God-given potential to do something to change this world. If you can climb out of it, people will learn from you.”
On one occasion, he also reflected on his college experience, asking young people to never go near the pills and drugs when at a party and drinking.
His opinion on marijuana legalization
John Kasich is very strictly opposed to the legalization of marijuana in his state and in all of the United States. He may believe that jailing people over smoking marijuana is too harsh, but Kasich stands firm and adds:
“don’t ask me to legalize it”.
In a recent TV appearance, Kasich was interviewed by Stephen Colbert and shared some of his opinions on this topic:
“We don’t do that in Ohio. We don’t even want serious drug addicts to be locked in prison for their rest of their lives. We treat them and we pass them off to the community. The problem with marijuana is this: We don’t want to tell our kids, ‘Don’t do drugs, but by the way, this drug’s okay.'”
