Readiness For Cocaine Rehab

Cocaine is a powerful illegal stimulant that is very, very addictive. Unfortunately, a cocaine addiction is tough to beat. The cravings can be intense. The post-acute withdrawal symptoms of depression and trouble sleeping can last for weeks or months. But take hope!

There is help available for anyone ready and willing to overcome a problem with cocaine. But you need to be ready. Here are some reasons you might want to give it a try:

1. Your family. Cocaine addiction can be devastating, not just for addicts, but for their loved ones as well.

2. Your career. Many people who get hooked on cocaine are high achievers. You can gain back what you’ve lost. But, you need to give yourself a chance.

2. Your health.  Cocaine addictions can affect people’s health. But once you get the coke out of your system, you can start feeling better within weeks.

Why Medical Treatment Is Essential

One of the most defining symptoms of a cocaine problem is “loss of control over use”. The initial decision to use coke starts as conscious choice. However, once the brain has been changed by cocaine, that choice or willpower disappears. And it is the compulsive nature of addiction is what makes harder for a person to recover on their own.

Once your brain becomes hijacked by cocaine, it becomes almost impossible to stop using it by yourself. The urge to take cocaine over and over again, even when you don’t want to is too strong to be conquered without the proper intervention of medical professionals.

If you are addicted to cocaine, we suggest that you seek treatment in order to quit coke for good. It is also very helpful to have the support of  your family, friends and peers to stay in treatment. They matter a great deal in your recovery journey. Having the emotional support of loved ones is an important contribution to the recovery process.

Rehab For Cocaine Addiction: What’s included?

Cocaine rehab programs are designed to treat individuals mainly through talk therapy. The goal of rehab for any addiction is to help you stop using cocaine, and stay stopped. Still, there is no quick, simple one-size-fits all approach to cocaine addiction treatment, and individual treatment plans are created for each person based on their wants, needs, and abilities.

Generally, rehab for cocaine addiction treatment will include several or all of the following steps.

Step 1. Initial assessment

Every person interested in rehab is first evaluated by medical professionals. Formal assessments and screening look at both physical and psychological dependence on cocaine. This initial assessment is used to determine how severe an addiction is and what type of treatment may work best. During, do not get surprised if rehab counselors or staff discover an underlying mental health issues. Addictions often come accompanied by co-occurring  disorders such as: depression, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Step 2. Medical detox from cocaine

Detoxification, or detox, is a process during which psychoactive drugs pass from the body. Medical detox takes place under the supervision of medical professionals, like doctors and nurses. Depending on the severity of the addiction, medical detox from cocaine may be necessary and can take a few days to a week to complete.

During medical detox, doctors monitor the entire withdrawal process. They are there to help ease their symptoms or attend to any dangerous complications. They also provide emotional or psychological support. Individuals who go through medical detox are also less likely to relapse during this crucial time, as they don’t have access to cocaine but do have the social and emotional support of clinic staff to encourage completion.

Step 3. Medications for cocaine addiction

Unlike opiate or opioid addiction, there are no specific medications currently used to treat cocaine addiction. Sometimes antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications will be prescribed, especially if these mood disorders affect quality of life. Over-the-counter and prescription medications, however, may sometimes be used to treat cocaine withdrawal symptoms, including agitation and restlessness.

Step 4. Psychotherapy

Individual therapy and counseling is a crucial component of rehab. Addiction specialists use therapy and counseling to help you understand addiction and treat any underlying psychological or emotional problems that contribute to your cocaine use. Group counseling enables people in recovery to talk with others in the same situation in a non-judgmental environment and to explore personal reactions to others. Because cocaine addiction can have a devastating effect on personal relationships, you and your loved ones may also find family counseling or family therapy helpful.

Step 5. Addiction education

Fully understanding of the cycle of substance abuse and addiction is an essential step in any rehab program. Cocaine rehab programs include education sessions to help addicts differentiate between rational and irrational thinking. During these sessions, addicts will learn about the disease model of addiction, which states that addiction is a disease that is influenced by biological, environmental, and genetic factors. And, like all diseases, addiction can be treated.

Step 6. Supportive services

Rehab programs are only effective if they have strong support services available to patients. These services include medical, social, and financial services and assistance. Educational and vocational services may also be available to help recovering cocaine addicts become self-sufficient and less likely to turn to drugs.
