What is Recovery?

People who stop using mind-altering drugs 100% are said to be “in recovery” from drug use. What does it really mean?

Recovery is the bridge from feeling hopeless to hopeful, from being miserable to feeling full of energy and joy. Treatment can help you become an entirely new person in the best sense possible. You will feel optimistic about the future and will gain more and more confidence in yourself with each and every passing day of your sobriety.

Yes, recovery is a long and challenging journey, and it will not always be easy. But if it means you have the opportunity to experience positive changes in your life, you can rest assured that it will be worth it!

Is MDMA Really Addictive?

Yes, ecstasy is addictive.

Ecstasy, the popular designer club drug, is taken to induce feelings of euphoria. Because people take it to get high, it can become addictive. However, many users claim that it does not cuase physical dependence. Despite what some may believe, studies have shown that ecstasy is psychologically addictive.

An ecstasy addiction, like other addictions, can be hard to beat. With a little professional help, recovery is possible. In fact, inpatient or outpatient rehabs can be the most effective ways to beat this addiction.

Why Rehab?

Ecstasy programs are designed to help you learn how to better cope with life’s stresses and abstain from using drugs. They teach you new ways to think that help retrain your mind not to need the drug. Plus, you’ll be able to relate with others in a similar situation

Rehab teaches you how to live drug-free and to live a holistic life without the need for mind altering substances.

Entering rehab, though, can be quite intimidating, especially if you’ve never been in rehab before. Each program is slightly different, but almost all of them include many of the services and treatment methods listed below.

What to Expect

First, assessment and evaluation.

An initial assessment and evaluation is performed by addiction specialists to determine an individualized treatment program based on your needs. You can expect to fill out paperwork, spend 1-1.5 hours in an interview, provide a drug testing sample, and undersgo a physical exam. Additional assessments are performed throughout treatment to determine progress.

Then, medical detox, if necessary.

Coming down from ecstasy can cause severe depression and suicidal thoughts. Medical detox to deal with the withdrawal symptoms from ecstasy is usually recommended. During medical detox from ecstasy, medical professionals can monitor individuals coming down from ecstasy around the clock.

Psychological treatments for addiction.

Individual therapy, including behavior therapy, is the most common type of psychological treatment used during ecstasy rehab treatment. You will also be treated for anxiety and depression. Group therapy and family counseling may also be used.

Pharmacotherapy.

No medications are currently used to treat ecstasy addiction specifically. However, while in rehab you will often need anti-depressants to help combat the severe depression that often occurs with ecstasy addiction.

Education sessions.

Ecstasy programs use education sessions to help you learn more about the brain and how it reacts to drug use. Rehabs teach you how and why drugs flood the brain with dopamine so you’ll understand the chemistry behind the euphoria. Your family members and loved ones may also be asked to participate in these education sessions.

Supportive services

Ecstasy rehab treatment programs typically offer a number of supportive services. You will often be able to get help with financial problems, family issues, medical problems, and employment and housing problems.

After Treatment Ends

No one says that life after rehab will be easy. In fact, many people find that not knowing what to expect may be the hardest thing of all. A thorough exit plan, however, created by an addiction specialist, can give you a general idea of what to expect when your treatment finishes.

An exit plan is a strategy that people who are leaving treatment can use to help keep them on the straight and narrow. It is usually a written document that outlines your personal treatment goals and plans for the immediate future. Exit plans are not one-size-fits-all. They are written to accommodate the individual needs of each person in recovery. They may include plans and strategies to:

  • Secure stable housing.
  • Find employment.
  • Reconnect with family.
  • Or, just stay away from drugs.

Exit plans also include aftercare services. Aftercare plans usually include weekly outpatient therapy sessions. Self-help group participation is also usually encouraged as part of ecstasy addiction aftercare. Family counseling sessions may also be necessary at this time. Those who need supportive services will also be referred to the proper programs and organizations upon leaving ecstasy rehab.

What To Expect When Visiting

If your loved one is in a rehab program, you may be able to visit her after she has settled in. Many treatment facilities allow people to visit their loved ones during treatment, but some restrictions may apply. For instance, you will probably only be able to visit on certain days and only for a short period of time.

You may also be discouraged from bringing certain personal items with you to the visitation; this includes such things as cell phones and medications. You and your loved one may also be asked to keep physical contact to a minimum.

During your visit, you will be allowed to socialize with your loved one in community areas of the facility. You may be able to play games in a rec room, for instance, or go for a walk outside. You may also be asked to participate and family counseling sessions. These counseling sessions can help you better understand addiction in general, and help you better understand how to cope with your loved one’s addiction. You can show your loved ones support by participating in these counseling sessions and becoming an active participant in recovery.

Leaving Before Completion

Rehab is not like prison. You are free to walk out the door at any time, whether you have completed a treatment program, or not. While you can leave a treatment program before completion, though, it is not recommended.

By not completing rehab  you are denying yourself experience and knowledge that can be used to overcome your addiction. Leaving a treatment program early greatly increases your chances of relapse and decreases your chance at a long, healthy drug-free life.

Besides remaining drug-free, there are also a number of other reasons to remain in treatment, a few of which are listed below.

  • Avoid problems with the law.
  • Prevent further damage to your health.
  • Rebuild trusting relationships with your loved ones.
  • Save money by abstaining from ecstasy.

Treatment Expectations

Realistic treatment expectations help keep your goals achievable. So, what can you focus on?

We suggest that you try to learn how to overcome this addiction and learn how to deal with life’s problems without using drugs. Keep in mind, though, that this isn’t going to be easy. It takes a great deal of determination and perseverance, but if you’re ready for a little hard work, you’re ready to take those first steps in recovery.
