Day six of no coffee or espresso dawned without much incident. I was feeling good, it was a Friday and the winter sludge had not yet hit. Part of the reason for my success must be credited to red reishi mushrooms. I was just beginning to feel the effects of the “magic mushrooms”. I’m not one for testimonials because I believe that all marketers are liars, however, I really think that they helped! Not one craving for coffee. Not one post-caffeine-like crash.
But then came Saturday. And the rationalization came – I needed a reward.
I won’t get into the histrionic details of a relapse, but it went from really good to OK to back-to-normal-straight-up-CAFFEINE-ADDICTION! pretty fast. And now, again I sit in the grips of coffee. I’m typing this after midnight, after an afternoon macciato has kept me on the working treadmill.
But I want to let you know that the red reishi mushrooms freakin’ rocked. I would take them in the morning, and feel a slight increase in energy, which didn’t leave me at 2 in the afternoon. It was kind of a gentle good feeling, barely noticeable, that would last the entire day. The mushrooms made coffee pretty much obsolete…but the mental cravings and psychological urge got the best of me. And my experience taught me (again) that you need to be ready to PUT DOWN the substance, no matter what substance, and abstain from it forever in order to succeed. The mushroom supplements are an effective tool for helping quit coffee…but to stay quit is another matter.
My name is Lee and I’m a caffeine addict.
