Whole Foods has an unbelievable selection of fresh, unpasteurized juices. I am drinking the Carrot Beet Ginger one as I type, and have a Carrot, Beet, Kale, Wheatgrass in the fridget. They are about $4 each for 16oz so if you're not a regular juicer, these are a great option.

Hi Carol. I my experience, juicing works best with a well balanced diet. I find also that I like drinking my juices on an empty or hall-full stomach. But that's just me.

Hi Frikkie. Daily dose and frequency of juicing will really depend upon the person. I'd suggest that you consult with a nutritionist in order to set up a juicing calendar to achieve nutritional goals.

I also find carrot + beet juice to be one of the best detoxifying juices. You wouldn't believe it, but I actually blogged about the same recipe earlier today before reading this post! What a coincidence LOL! This is a great list of juicing recipes and definitely handy for those interested in detoxing from alcohol or drug abuse.

Hi Mandy. Fresh vegetables are always best. But in a pinch, yes...I suppose that you could used canned beet. And drinking the juice in the can on the side...why not?

I did some work with a Chinese Herbalist a few years ago and did many of the Extreme Liver Cleanses, although he didn't call them that. They worked very well for me, although I did combine them with other things, such as a fairly clean diet for a few months, lots of juicing, some fasting, kidney cleanses and some other odds and ends. If done correctly these cleanses really work, but it should go without saying that alcohol and other drugs (both legal and illegal) are generally bad news for you liver.

Hi Karen. Thanks for your question. In my personal experience, a "detox" is really based on what's happening in your body your personal health goals. In other words...What can your body handle? And what are you trying to achieve?

In terms of an exact detox or juicing program, I've known some programs that advocate that juicing for detox become a part of your lifestyle, some that say your should juice as needed, and some that are an intense period of juicing (3-5 weeks).

I'd suggest that you schedule a consultation with a nutritionist and make sure that you get a juicing program verified and OK'd by your primary doctor (or specialist) before starting. This way, you can co-create a program that will work for you!
